The Power of Flowers!

The Power of Flowers!

Why do we send flowers to our friends, our family? To let them know we’re thinking of them, and that we care. Whatever the reason – birth, death, an engagement, or simply to cheer someone up who’s had a bad few weeks – sending flowers is an act of love and respect. Letting the recipient know that they are special and thought of.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is this 25th November 2021. Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world today and remains largely unreported due to the impunity, silence, stigma and shame surrounding it.  We have largely associated women with femininity and kindness, so this 25th lets start by creating a wave of kindness to the women in our lives.

Women are brought up unconsciously to think about their own weaknesses, while men are brought up to think about the weakness of others. Female victims of violence often experience a range of constant and negative emotions that overtime accumulate to take on a powerful place in their mind. Women who are subjected to abuse have not been made to feel special for a long time. This leads to a chain of thoughts that after years can lead to depression and self-harm.  When your self-esteem has been eroded, how can we see ourselves as worthy?  When someone you trust more than anyone destroys your sense of self, it’s hard to believe that people really care. Showing small acts of kindness throughout daily life similarly accumulates to bring joy, trust, and happiness.

How can we as a sole individual make our own powerful move to help this cause. Creating regular conversation and a safe atmosphere for differing opinions could be one of the most basic ways to help women. Women shelters work very hard to empower survivors, to help them look forward to their future and help them access the support they need on the way.

‘Feeling special’ isn’t just a cliché. Neither is ‘empowerment’,  Recognizing and celebrating what makes each woman unique is Bloom and Bud's biggest value!

In light of that we at Bloom & Bud believe that a bouquet of flowers is a great way to make someone feel special. It is a simple gift of flowers will be a “pick me up” for women struggling to create a new life for themselves and their children.  As seen in our blog about the positive impact of flowers on our brain, flowers have an immediate impact on happiness and can help to show that there will be brighter days ahead.

To show your support for this year’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and to help send positive messages to female victims of abuse, purchase a bouquet of Bloom & Bud flowers, and we will donate 5% of the proceeds to Women's Community Shelter Australia!
